A little girl once said, “I hate apples because they look bad,” even though she had never tried one. However, after tasting an apple for the first time, she finally realized how delicious it was.
When you hear the word “debate,” what comes to your mind?
Many people may think of words such as “aggressive,” “fighting,” or “argument.”
In reality, the essence of debate lies in “communication”.
Since debate requires you to understand their opponents’ arguments and to persuade judges, making communication between debaters and judges essential. In addition to communication skills, academic debate fosters critical thinking, broadens perspectives, and deepens interest in social issues. Overall, it offers values that are difficult to gain in our everyday life.
As one of the largest debating organizations in Japan, NAFA provides opportunities for all those involved in academic debate to develop these skills. At the same time, NAFA offers a diverse community that connects people across universities and organizations, enriching your university experience. We warmly welcome anyone interested in joining us, observing a tournament, or participating in tournaments.
By trying debate even once, you may discover how engaging and profound it can be—just as the little girl discovered the true taste of apples. We hope to change your perception of debate.
Please join us and experience the unique and rewarding world of academic debate through NAFA.
